About Us
The mission of One Love Rescue is to rescue abandoned and surrendered cats and find them their forever homes. We are a government nonprofit organization, but we have not yet obtained our federal 501c3 affiliation.
One Love Rescue is a small team of volunteers working to save the lives of cats and kittens. We are a foster-based group, meaning these wonderful volunteers house our rescued cats and kittens in their own homes! We do not have a facility where all the cats stay, which means you don't meet everyone at once. We will set an appointment and the foster moms (and dads!) will welcome you into their home to meet the adoptable cat/kitten that you are interested in. We do occasionally hold adoption events in town, where you may see a larger population of our adoptables at one time. Keep watch for our events to be listed! Packy's Pet Supplies also houses some of our adoptable cats and kittens - So stop in there to see more!

As local residents were looking for help with cats, either their own pets or outdoor strays, Emily said it was overwhelming and they didn't have enough manpower to meet the community's needs. So, she started asking those people to foster themselves and said she would help with any medical needs. Emily said she would try and market them as available for adoption. This is how the group has grown! However, we still are a small group of only 10-12 volunteers.

In addition to pulling stray cats and kittens off the streets, One Love Rescue also partners with the Roscommon County Animal Shelter and will take in cats or kittens they need help with. We also work with the shelter to utilize their spay/neuter clinics. We also use Surrey Veterinary Clinic for various medical issues and spay/neuter appointments. Just recently, One Love Rescue has begun doing some TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) work - an effort to try and reduce the free-roaming cat population here in the Houghton Lake area.

One Love Rescue started listing pets available on Petfinder in mid-February 2020.
From Feb-Oct 2020, we've adopted out 149 kittens and cats to lucky, happy homes!

Emily Cameron Nevills
Emily Cameron-Nevills is the director of One Love Rescue. She started volunteering with other rescue groups around 6 years ago, in 2014, working with dogs and cats. A dear friend Margaret, of Laney's Voice, taught her much of what she knows today. When Margaret passed away in 2019, Emily teamed up with another group of ladies who wanted to help the well-being of animals. This became a grassroots group with no real vision or name. As more women joined, they were able to help more and more animals. Soon, they decided that they needed a name and an official group. This is how One Love Rescue was started.
